Hi,
I try to install Vista beta 2 into a second partition on my Dell Latitude
D410 (1gb Memory)
I'll start the setup.exe directly out of the running XP SP2, setup starts
fine and it fails directly after the copying step. In the UI I see a blinking
Extracting 0% ... and the error message is "An error occured while laying
down images."

in the setuperr.log i found:
[0x0600a1] IBS LayDownImage:WIMApplyImage failed.
Error [0x060096] IBS PrepareImageTransfer:An error occurred while
laying down the image GLE = 31
Error [0x060082] IBS CallBack_ImageTransfer:Failed to lay down the
image GLE = 31

I have initially > 5 GB free space on the c: drive and > 10GB on the
Partition for Vista, so space should'nt be an issue.

Any ideas?

Thank you,

Uli

I've got 28Gb free on my C drive and I get the message "An error occurred
while laying down the images" when I try to upgrade from XP Pro.

Not sure that it is a disk space problem?

You need more disk space, Vista cannot hold on 10 GBs, thats why it errored
out. The minimum is 10.1 GBs.

XP Pro (no dual booting) and I get the following "An error occurred while
laying down the images".

Not sure it is disk space, given 28Gb is still a fair chunk, even by today's
standards.
