Not particularly.
The vendors will just start preloading them with Vista.

Maybe if your talking older stock you will see a fall.

I've been wondering the opposite: Should I corner the market on all the new,
already-built XP machines I can find?

They could be in VERY big demand after Vista is released to the general
public, and people see what they might be forced to use if they can't find
an XP box.

Yes, just like millions of people ran screaming back to Windows 98 back in
2001 when they found out about XP.

In any case, stores are filled with computers under 1000 dollars that have 1
gig of memory and a decent video card that will run Vista just fine. The
people that might have some issues are those who are buying 400 dollar Dell
computers, and my guess is that Dell will have to make their cheapest
computers run Vista Premium at some point.

Soon you'll find them in Crackerjack boxes.

Because of new features possible with Vista, such as side show, I expect
laptops without such features to drop in price, or become poor sellers.
Later this year Intel will introduce 45 nano meter technology CPU's that
will also make current laptops seem somewhat less valuable. But that's still
several months away.

Does anyone expect XP laptop prices to drop once Vista is released?

Most current XP laptops have been coming with "Vista ready" stickers for
months. Currently, most offer free Vista upgrades. For those, no. For
laptops that cannot claim "Vista ready", yes.
