Does anyone know if there is a backup log when using File Backup in Vista? I
would like to see a report/list of the files backed up for a particular job.

Thanks,

McR

Hello Mcron,

Thank you for using newsgroup!

Based on my experience, the Backup log will be generated under Event
Viewer\Applications and Services Logs\Microsoft\Windows\Backup.

Thanks & Regards,

Ken Zhao

Thanks for your reply.

I have run a couple of file backups and have navigated to the location you
described. I see a single entry with the name Microsoft-Windows-Backup, the
type is Operational, number of events is 0 and size is 68KB. The Log path is
%SystemRoot%\System32\Winevt\Logs\Microsoft-Windows-Backup.evtx. I don't see
any entries in the log.

Do I need to enable logging for the backups or is it on by default?

My goal is to obtain a report or log that shows which files are backed up
for a particular backup job. Can you help me with this?

Thanks,

McR

Hello Mcron,

Yes, you may need to enable the backup log. Based on my experience, this
backup log will log which folders you have backed up.

Thanks & Regards,

Ken Zhao

Hello Mcron,

You may start Backup and Restore Center and create a backup mission and
click Back up Now button. When the backup is completed, you may click
details to check the detailed information.

Hi,

The file backup doesn't generate a full report of your backed up files.
The best way to browse for backed up content is to launch the "Restore
Files" part of the experience. From there you can either browse into or
search within the backed up content.

However we do see such an ability an important feature to have and we
plan on adding it in a future version of the OS.

To add a bit, if you are interested on some crude event log information from
backup, check the *.etl from %windir%\Windows\Logs\WindowsBackup

Thanks Eduardo!

Thanks & Regards,

Ken Zhao
