Vista Authentication question

It is my understanding that you can own your system with Vista running. You
can change the harddrive, for example, out. Then Vista won't run unless you
Authenticate it again. You only have 3-chances to do this before you are
forced to purchase another license copy of Vista. If this is true, then
what if you get your system home and decide to partition the harddrive?
After all, it silly to have a 250GB harddrive with no partitions (in my
opinion).

Thanks

MS were going to apply more stringent restrictions than with XP but the
licence terms are now the same as XP - you can install on as many PC's as
you like but must only ever have it on one PC at any time - i.e. if you
move it to a new PC you must remove it from the previous PC.

As far as authentication is concerned there is a post up the group a bit
saying that the HD now has more weight in deciding on re-authentication
(the NIC carried most weight in XP). I guess if you try and activate
frequently you will find yourself explaining why to the MS call centre,
but in reality that was never a show stopper with XP.

Just to clarify this is only true for the full retail version. Or an
upgrade that goes with a full retail version. OEM license (ones that come
with a PC) are not transferable. You can only rebuild your exisint machine
over, that license doens't transfer to new PC's
