Hi,

New to Vista but not to Windows. How do I get Vista to stop asking me for
permission for everything I ask it to do?

"Windows needs your permission to do ... whatever"!

I went to "Help" on this one & found a description of what it does, but no
info on how to access it to change the defaults.

Thanks

Open Help and Support and type in UAC
The number 2 item on my system is how to turn this off - it will be in the
lost near the top on yours too.
Think long and hard about the real implications of doing this on your system
before you do this. There are extremely good reasons why UAC is a good
thing for a regular Windows Vista user who thinks they are an admin.

It's called User Account Control and applies to all accounts except the
actual Administrator one. It is a safeguard and gives you the second
chance to stop doing something or stop something from happening that you
might regret. It's advisable to keep it in place.
However you can disable UAC. Just go to Start/Help & Support. Type in
"disable uac" (minus the "") the first item in the list that pops up is what
you want. You have to be signed in as an Administrative level account to
turn it off.
You turn UAC off at your own risk entirely.
