I have been reading this forum for quite a while and utilizing all the
suggestions and still can not for the life of me get my Vista computer to
access my XP computer. Always get the dreaded "Desktop is not accessable.
1. Vista on a laptop
2. XP on Desktop
3. Vista Laptop accessess internet and network via a Linksys WRTP 54 G Router
4. XP Desktop is connect directly the router. Router connected to Cable
Modem
5. Both computers have McAfee Security Center Installed
* Have a range of IP addresses allowed set on both computers
* Have opened up recommended UDP and TCP incoming conection ports
* McAfee Network recognizes both computers and router and both
computers can talk to each other form here
6. Both computers have Windows Firewall Disables
7. Have XP patch installed on my XP Desktop
8. I can ping each computer from the other computer
9. Both have WorkGroup Name = WORKGROUP
10. Have file sharing and discovery enabled on Vista Computer
11. User names are the same on both computers and both users have the same
permissions
12. I have set up file sharing and allowed everyone permissions
The jist of this question is this:
I can access my Vista laptop all day long from my XP Desktop, but not the
other way around. I can see my XP Desktop from Vista both in the map and the
network page. Everytime I try and access it gives me the above mention
statement.
Does anyone know how to fix this?
