Yeh, but it's not recommended. To get the best potential out of the network,
use Windows Server "Longhorn", or next best thing, Windows Server System
2003 onwards (Enterprise, Standard, R2, SBS etc.)

Brad/Zack,
Thanx for the response.
I am still unable to join the Vista system to WinNT domain. An attempt to
do so, is always resulting in an error message saying "There is no user
session key for the specified logon session". I know for sure that I am using
the right logon credentials.
Appreciate any thoughts on this.

Thanx

i'm getting the same problem username and password are invalid when i know
for well that there not.

Any help would be good if anyone has any idea's as to what the problem is

I initially installed Vista 32bit on a system while at home and just told it
it was on a private network.

When I brought the system to work today to try connecting to my NT domain I
had similar problems.

Normally I would have gone to
Control Panel
System
Change Network Settings
Change
In order to join a domain.

That didn't work. When It asked me to provide a user name and password for
an account that had the join privilages, it rejected mine.

Tried joining two different domains, same thing. Tried entering the user
name with the syntex domain\user but that didn't work either.

When I opened Windows explorer to browse the network, the system said it
couldn't find a network.

Even though DHCP worked and I could ping anything on the network.

Then I went back to the
Change Network Settings
this time I chose the
Network ID
and followed the wizard. That method worked just fine.

I've now created a computer account in one of the domains.
Now when I go to the Vista login screen, and it usually has my default
account icon selected, I just chose 'Switch users', and I enter my login
name using
domain\user

Works just fine. I can log into either domain with no problem. All the NT
login scripts process just fine as well.

I was having the same problem trying to join the Domain the old fashioned
way. When I used the wizard I had no problems joing the NT4 Domain

Vista joining Win NT domain

Yes it is possible to join a winnt domain. You simply need to manually add the computer name to the domain controller before configuring the vista.

In addition to my previous quote, for those who are planning to Join a windows Vista machine in a Win NT domain with different workstation platforms. Remember to configure your machine from scratch (factory default state), use the initial computer name you used for manually adding to the domain.

for any other questions regarding Vista or any other platforms, please email me: (e-mail address removed); (e-mail address removed)
