I've done some testing with WinFax PRO and Vista .
installed winfax pro version version 10.03 on Windows Vista Basic Edition.
as per:
http://www.getfaxing.com/cgi-bin/ib315/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=17;t=259
which is a great source of WinFax information
- Yes you can Send 1 page Faxes (WinFax cover pages only)
- Yes you can Receive Faxes.
What doesn't work is printing(faxing) from any other application since
printer drivers for WinFax do not get installed (they are incompatible with
Vista since they are Kernel Mode printer drivers). So, printing or adding
attachments will not work. This is a major part of winfax so without this
you are very limited in what you can do.
Other items that I found that NOT work under Vista are:
- Fax Sharing (tells you TCP/IP is not installed, so you can't setup this
feature)
- Entering any number into a number specific field such as fax number, CSID,
phonebook #, IP address causes the dialog box open to crash.
- In Dialing settings (entering area code settings) causes dialog box to
crash.
The WinFax service appears to work , but I recommend disabling it from the
"automatic" setting to "disabled" so it does not load at startup.
So what is the point to all this? you can still continue to use WinFax as a
front end to receive faxes in WinFax and print them out or use WinFax to
organize your older faxes archives incase you need to view or print them at
a later date.
