Ok so my dad tried to install his 10 year old Roxio CD recording software onto our Vista HP machine. Now I've checked around online and know that everyone has had problems and that it is hard to fix. every time a user logs on a stupid bubble in the taskbar pops up that says vista is incompatible and that it is disabling the driver... yada yada. It is really more annoying than anything. Does anyone have any ideas as to how to fix it or a link to somewhere that can help?
Thanks

Ummm... try not running 10 year old software when there is a newer
version available?

Do you REALLY expect software that's TEN years old to run properly on Vista?

In any case there are FAR better new, free apps for this.
CDBurner XP will run just fine on Vista and it's free,

So you expect Vista to be compatable with 10 year old software? HA HA HA HA - Get a life. So you checked online and found that EVERYONE has had problems? Now are you sure you spoke with EVERYONE? I asked around and NOBODY said they were asked a question by YOU.

I think you should take some drugs.

No sh*t. I'm not the one who installed it. All I want to know is if there
is a way to remove the error message? If all your going to do is lecture me
on it, I don't need it. I would have known not to install it but I wasn't
there, I'm just trying to fix it.

Roxio always was a piece of crap.

Then what is it doing on my Dell Inspiron?
What's best to replace it with and possibly freeware?

Harry.

I'm giving you a solution, install a newer version of that software or
uninstall it and install newer burner software.

You could try one of the freely available Linux distributions - comes
with CD recording software - no hassle.

That's not a solution, that's a whole new set of problems.

Uninstall all of the Roxio software, especially whatever UDF disc burning
software - that's a likely cause of the driver error. Ten year old software
probably isn't even compatible with XP, let alone Vista. Some of them also
installed an obsolete ASPI driver which is another potential cause of the
error. Uninstallers weren't always very efficient so it might also take a
system restore to a point before the programs were installed to get his
computer back to what it was.
