Is there some reason why we we're unable to utilize Ghost with Vista?

Every time I attempt to use Ghost to copy a drive, when I boot with the new
drive, Vista doesn't boot.

Thanx.

Which "Ghost" are you (both the OP and the responder) referring to? Norton
Ghost, or Symantec Ghost? And as a standalone DOS or WinPE application, or
from within a Windows environment?

Could you elaborate please. The documentation says it's compatible.
I'm using it and it seems to be working. Although I haven't tried a
full restore.

Hi Joe,

I wasn't too clear in my response. Symantec decided not to update existing
versions of ghost to handle Vista specifications. Instead, they first went
with an entirely different product line (360), then recently released a new
version of ghost specific to Vista. Older versions of the product cannot and
will not be able to handle Vista and Symantec will not update them to.

I don't know why.

I use version 8 of Norton Ghost on Vista. I have a bootable CD (UBCD4WIN)
which lets me Ghost perfectly.
I've partitioned the disk in my notebook to a C: and D:.
ALL my data is on D:. I do a lot of downloading and testing. Before a
major test I boot from the CD and ghost from C: to D:\Ghost\yymmdd.

If I have problems uninstalling after the test I just boot from the cd then
ghost from G:\Ghost\yymmdd to C:.
It reboots every time.

I bought Norotn Ghost v10 but it doesn't fave the simplicity and ease of use
of V8.

Ghost (10 and above) is compatible and works very well on my
computer. Full restore of system disk is very easy. As with
Acronis, one does not even need to use the Restore CD.
With Lightsout enabled, System HD restoration can be launched from inside
Vista;
the computer then reboots and, restores the HD, and then reboots
normally from the drive.
