My son goes to school and we are thinking about upgarding to vista.
Recently i noticed many sites stating that the is a Windows Vista Home
Premium Academic Upgrade edition. Will this academic version have any
features that are not in the normal Home Premium edition
 
High School or college? If college, best to wait and get it from your son's
college book store. Then he will likely be getting the version that will
work properly with the college network. You may well need the ultimate
edition if the college so stipulates.

Other than that, Vista Home Premium should be the same for both Academic and
retail editions.

I spoke with MSFT just now,and there will be NO Vista so called Home
Premium or any other Vista Academic edition ever sold individually or with
that title as "Vista Academic" with specific features, but I do know there
will be a volume license verison available for purchases by academic

There will be an Office Home and Student 2007 available, that can be
purchased as an individual non-volume license, and it will contain Word,
Excel, Powerpoint, One Note and will *not contain Outlook.

I don't see a Home Premium Academic listed on MSFT's site and again, MSFT
just said there is no such named entity for *Vista although there are
agreements to purchase a Vista version through shcol volume licensing
agreements and those are linked below.

Both K12 and college, graduate schools of all types can all go through the
volume licensing program I've linked for academic purchases, but there will
be no Vista Academic per se with features. There will be an individual
purchase of Office Home and Student 2007

In the case of Vista that's true as far as edition features and any academic
discounts are through the programs I've linked on two posts on this thread.

As to Office, there will be an Offie Home and Student 2007:

Ok, I know you can run 98 on modern hardware, but just to be safe, what are
the specs on those PC's? The only qualified versions of Windows you can
upgrade to are 2000 and XP. Also, are those machines x86-x64 compatible?
 
You cant upgrade to Vista. If you are from a uni, check with them if they
have mdsn aa subscription. If you have then hopefully you can get it from
free.

But usually client os has no discount for students/teachers.
 
You will be able to purchase the Academic version of Vista after the January
30 release date. You cannot upgrade from Windows 98, so you will need to get
the full version.

Check with your campus store to see if they will be offering any deals on
the new OS.

You need to check your systems thoroughly for compatibility with Vista and
especially for the 64 bit version.

I don't think there would be a problem upgrading XPPro, regardless of
whether it's the academic version or not. The Academic versions are the same
as the retail version except for the label discount price.
