I'm currently using Vista Business 64-bit...

"Me too" .. And loving the backup feature (presuming it restores
succesfully)

Er, you're using a piece of backup software without having tested if it
restores successfully...?

Why are you even bothering to use it at all, in that case...?

That's nice, but it doesn't answer the question.
All Windows Vista editions, except for Vista Starter, will come with both
32-bit (x86) and 64-bit (x64) versions.

Any further news or confirmation that one will have to "order",
as opposed to being supplied in the original box, the x64 editions?

Nothing I have seen. I haven't taken time to watch the Vista team blogs but
that might be a source. Or WinSuperSite.

Thank you.

last I have heard, is they will NOT be in the retail box, you have to contact Microsoft to get the 64 bit version.

Bummer

But I wish there were an "official" confirmation (along with an "official" confirmation
as to weather or not the Upgrade Version disks will be bootable).

Darrell Gorter (MSFT) confirmed that the retail Upgrade Edition dvd's are bootable. You can reach all the WinPE tools, system restore, CompletePC Backup (for restores), etc by booting with the dvd.

However, if you do boot with the dvd and then start Setup when you enter an Upgrade Edition product key you will get a message and must exit setup. Setup will inform you that the product key you entered requires that you restart the computer with the operating system already installed and run Setup from that desktop.

The confusion here is that we are all used to being able to boot a computer with an XP Upgrade Edition cd and install Windows that way. That is what you cannot do with Vista. But the dvd is bootable.

Thank you.
Personally I am going for the Full Version, but I don't want to pass along any "unconfirmed" information.
One down, one to go.
Patience is the very least of my virtues.
Whine: I want my x64 Vista on Jan. 30

For a separate order, the closest "official" information I could get is from
the following:

And I quote: "[...]and Microsoft has decided, sensibly, that it won't
include the 64-bit version of Vista in any of its retail boxes; you'll have
to order a DVD and have it shipped separately."

Thanks,
Total BUMMER (not sensible to me -- Vista RC2 x64 is terrific, except for hardware drivers.)

Well, similar topic has been discussed.

In any case, I couldn't understand with my little overstressed brain :)
