Only one crash so far but quite annoying.

My entire 24" monitor screen went red with a white <I think> message
that said something to the effect that a Hardware shutdown ~~~

The screen went blank and then Vista re-booted. Never had a real chance to
read what happened. and that was it.

Went to device manager and nary a Yellow Exclamaination mark to be found.

I would like to stop Vista from the instant reboot if possible, so that if
there are any further problems the problem will remain visible until "I"
restart the machine.

Is this possible <?>, and if so please be careful to explain is reasonable
simple terms how to accomplish the task to this 80 year old.

Hi,

Control Panel/System/Advanced system settings, click on "settings" under
startup and recovery. Under System Failure, uncheck the line to
automatically restart. Apply/ok your way out.

However, if the system hardware is initiating the shutdown and not the
operating system, this will not prevent an automatic shutdown. Hardware is
often set to do this to prevent damage to the system.
