Normally after clicking a link it changes color. Now no
longer happens!!! Appears to be a result of aninstalled
Win 98 SE update but no idea which one. Anyone any idea?
Cheers and thanks in anticipation. Chris

This is a common problem in IE which is usually cleared up by purging the TIF
cache.

Here's how to purge the cache manually:

From the IE menu, click on Tools > Internet Options. In the General tab click on
the Delete Files in the Temporary Internet files section. You'll be presented
with an option to delete the offline content as well...that helps also.

If you want to have this done automatically and your surfing habits are such
that you do not need to reuse the existing files in the TIF folders, you can
configure IE to purge the files whenever IE is closed. To implement this
feature, click on Tools>Internet Options>Advanced [tab]. Scroll down the
Settings to the Security section and enable "Empty Temporary Internet Files
folder when browser is closed".

Enabling this setting does not affect cookies nor does it delete the offline
content.

Hi Eric, Thanks for this but afraid this was not the
problem. Had tried before posting and again just now.
Cheers, Chris

Very strange. You may want to verify that the color settings for Links haven't
been changed. In IE, click on Tools | Internet Options. Click on the Colors
button in the General section and check to see if the color settings for Links
are as you want them.

Thanks again Eric but no go again. Any links I have
visited more than a few days ago are appearing as visited,
ie in purple in my case. Hovering on a link changes to red
as set but after visiting reverts back to blue. A real
weird one!!! Cheers, Chris

It could be a problem with your History folder. First try clearing the folder
using Internet Options | Clear History.

If still no joy, see this site for more on this subject:

Thanks again Eric,
But again we hit the wall! I have cleared history
(successfully) as well as deleting all cookies and files
from Temp folder (C:\windows\local settings\temporary
internet files) but no change. Strange thing is if I click
a link in Outlook Express, it changes to the visited color.
Got me completely baffled.
Cheers, Chris
