If you are lucky the OS may recognize the scanner; but do you have the
original disks/CD?

I love to cook with wine. Sometimes I even put it in the food.

Thank you Jim Thompson,

No CD came with this scanner, the install took place via online instructions,
and it seems that this time either the instructions changed or I am "chicken"
to go throught with it all. At one point it tells me to do this and that, and
at the same time the warning comes up and says that this action could damage my
disks. What is a girl to do? I actually think that I am closer to having it
installed then I think, because today I noticed that the little icon for the
scanner next to the clock tells me that the scanner is in there somewhere, but
it does not scan yet. When I open up the control panel and go to scanners and
cameras, there is no Icon there. So in the meantime I am trying to patient and
catch-up on all my mail and other work on this new computer. Thank you, Rita

If the warning you are talking about is the one in Windows XP Hardware
install that warns about the driver not being digitally signed, then just
click "Continue anyway".

Until you click "Continue anyway", the driver is not installed.

That warning is put there because the manufacturer would not pay Microsoft
for the "Windows Logo" fee.

No harm will come to your computer, unless it is the wrong driver.
