My office deals with federal grant proposals which have
very strict page and format limitations as well as very
tight deadlines. We often create graphic elements in visio
or other graphic programs to insert into our word
documents. However, while these elements show up in the
print preview screen and when printed, they do not appear
in the on-screen document whether the view is normal or
print layout. Thus, it is impossible to accuarately
ddetermine the number of pages in the document while
working on the document and it is also impossible to
manipulate the image on screen (there is no way to click
on this). When dealing with tight deadlines and page
limits, this is a serious problem. For instance, we were
working with a document that had to be postmarked
yesterday that had a 15 page limit. It looked like we were
good at 14.5 pages looking at the on screen document but
when printed, it was 17 pages. Trying to cut two pages is
difficult, especially on tight deadlines. This problem
seriously limits the usefulness of Word in this
environment. We use Word 2000. If anyone knows of a fix
for this, I would appreciate the information. Thanks very
much.
