VIRUSES

I'm a computer novice with a Compaq operating on Windows XP Home Edition. Before I knew about the integrated firewall, several of my system files (System32|MSTAKM.EXE...OLEHELP.EXE....SVCHOSTC.EXE....SVCHOSTS.EXE AND SURTE.EXE) were all infected with Trojans that AVG and Norton have been unable to clean. Additionally, my attempts to restore and use the recovery disk have been fruitless. Any help would be appreciated.

Those are not Windows files; most likely just the virus.
 
If your AV software cannot remove or clean them, then a format/reinstall is
usually the next step.
