Everytime I scan my HDs with a different anti-virus program it finds
something different.

House Trend Micro found a bunch then said clean.
I scan it with McAfee and it finds 20 more.
There theres Trojan Hunter that found trojans that both couldnt find.

There are things like keyloggers/trojans, viruses, worms etc
Getting ready to reinstall WIN XP and reformatting my HDs.

My HDs are acting screwy as heck.

Whats the best most comprehensive virus program so that you dont have
to use 4-5 anti-virus programs?

Probably each of this program has they Owen quarantine folder where they
keep deleted viruses. Try to delete quarantine files and it will help.
Good lack.

Whatever it is that you're doing, cut it out.
Something is subjecting you to all these, there is no AV program
that's meant to deal with a system that is THAT vulnerable, you first
need to change security, system settings, or usage patterns.

AFTER you change (whatever is needed) it sounds like you should avoid
Trend Micro's product. The best stategy is similar to what you did,
running multiple programs instead of "assuming" one would catch
everything. If doing this becomes cost-prohibitive you might try
those you already had plus freeware scanners like Grisoft AVG, and if
you had that many problems it might also be helpful to use Spybot
Search & Destroy, Spyware Blaster, Ad-Aware.

McAfee and Norton are the big 2. Either one will catch just about everything
if properly configured and maintained. Norton seems to get virus signatures
out faster than the rest. Unless you are ultra paranoid, you really don't
need any more than 1 good AV. If running more than 1, do not enable the Auto
Protect feature of any more than 1 of them and be sure to configure the
exclusions so that each will ignore the other's quarantine and other special
file extensions.

As already mentioned, the quarantine of one product may be getting detected
by another program. Also, some AV programs leave the infected file in place
and only change the file extension - these will get re-detected by an
alternate AV during a comprehensive scan.

Stay the heck away from Panda. IMO, it's a piece of poo.

Don't overlook the possibility that you have spyware on your system. Some of
that stuff will really wear down your system. The only 2 anti-spyware
applications you'll ever need are free and can be found at:

AdAware (http://www.lavasoftusa.com/support/download/)

and

SpyBot Search & Destroy

Starting with safe practices. Disable javascript, java, and image
loading in your browser. Never open HTML mail. Never run
anybodies freebie mahvahluss utility. Don't use IE, OE, Word,
Excel. Avoid any Microsoft software. Operate off-line as far as
possible. Mount and use ZoneAlarm.

And if you end up following all of these, sell your computer and get
yourself a paper pad a good pencil instead.

Symantec's Norton Anti-Virus 2004 is the best rated.

Some viruses stay hidden in the system registry even if all infected
files are quarantined or deleted. They just spread again after a
reboot. To get rid of them for good, you need something to clear them
out of the system registry, such as the Trend Micro system cleaner
which can be downloaded for free from their website. This is a small
(about 400k) untility which operates independently of their main AV
software, and has its own virus signature file.

A virus CAN'T live in the registry. What can be in a few places is a command
that runs at start and re-installs a virus. This is just the same a nagware
screens that come up at boot or some automatic programs that aren't in your
STARTUP folder.

My statement was a figure of speech.

VBS_REDLOF is an example that you have to clear with a system cleaner
or similar tool, though it's relatively harmless.
