We seem to have so many viruses that we cannot fix, that
we thought about completely uninstalling XP (entire
operating system) and re-installing.
1- is this a good idea?
2- will it competely remove viruses?

1. If you have no other choice it's a good idea. Having properly configured
and updated antivirus software would have been a better idea.

2. If you format your entire hard disk you will completely remove all
viruses. You will also have to reinstall, reconfigure and re-update all your
software. A good way to kill a weekend.

This is a no-brainer. Byte the bullet and buy McAfee or
Norton anti-virus software. Install it and run a scan to
remove the virus'. Those that cannot be removed will be
quaranteed. Keep the software updated at least once a
week.
