I'm running IE 6.0.2800.1106 128bit on Windows 2000. Once in a while,
generally when I have around 4 IE windows open, I will click on a link (Open
in New Window) and my whole display will get f**ked up. It looks like that
screen saver that cuts up your screen in a grid of squares then starts
moving them all over the place. The only thing I can do is use Alt-F4 to
start closing windows till I see my display again.

I've always had NAV running, and run Spyware S&D on a regular basis. Since
I've noticed this behaviour I've tried many other AV, Spyware, Trojan
programs but nothing has been fixed.

I've also installed all MS critical updates. I anticipate this is a problem
with IE being hijacked by something since this never happens unless I'm
using IE. If I use Mozilla or any other app it never happens.

Can anyone suggest something I can use to get this fixed? Damn, this is so
annoying!

TIA,
MP

Thanks,

I'm already there. I've always had Netscape/Mozilla on the backburner,
simply for it's great WYSIWYG composer to do basic pages. I've already
imported all my bookmarks, but I would like to have IE fixed anyway.

One of the most humorous incidents on a computer is when IE causes
another crash, and the window pops up stating, "...do you want to tell
Microsoft about this." If freakin' MS doesn't know that their browser
is a joke and is causing untold thousands of crashes each and every
day, then my telling them is not going to help anyone.

Go to Mozilla.org and get Firefox. Once you browse with tabbed windows
you won't go back. It is stable, highly configurable, and easily
customized. I have had over a dozen tabs (each with a different URL
loaded) and clicked maniacally between them without difficulty or
problems. It will also import your favorites list so you won't lose
those. The numerous free extensions are also fantastic.

Additionally, I have witnessed an uninfected computer exhibiting
symptoms of Sasser without being infected, and the symptoms
disappeared as soon as I installed ZoneAlarm- get it! It's free and it
works.

Have you updated video drivers recently - if ever?
If you have, might be the cause; If you haven't, might be the cure.
Get them from the manufacturer of your computer or video card, *not*
from Microsoft. A resources issue might be playing a part - Doesn't
Win2K come with IE 5? There's a large difference in resource use
between the two.

I think you're almost there. ;-)
