Check your system for "hijackware":

Dealing with Hijackware
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm
http://www.mvps.org/inetexplorer/Darnit.htm#tshoot
http://aumha.org/a/parasite.htm

You *must* seek updates for Ad-Aware, Spybot, etc., before each and every
use, even "right out of the box". But even then, they can't catch
everything. HijackThis (http://www.merijn.org/files/hijackthis.zip; [new
URL] ) is the preferred tool to use these days. It will help to both
identify and remove any hijackware/spyware. **Post your files to
http://forums.spywareinfo.com/ for expert analysis, not here.**

Also update your virus definitions and then run a full system scan. From
now on, do both daily.

VIRUSES, WORMS AND TROJAN HORSES
In the computer security world, the terms virus, worm and
Trojan horse are thrown around casually. But what are
those things? Here's a guide:

Virus--A malicious program, usually written to damage the
victim's data. Damage can range from irritating messages
to destruction of everything on your hard drive.

Worm--A program that spreads through e-mail. Most worms
include their own e-mail program. They find e-mail
addresses on your hard drive and send copies of
themselves to each.

Trojan horse--A program that secretly piggybacks on
another download. It may be malicious, or it may download
malicious programs.

A malicious program can have any or all of the
characteristics of viruses, worms and Trojan horses. They
generally spread as e-mail attachments. The writers try
to trick you into opening the attachment, a process
called "social engineering." You can get rid of these
programs by installing an anti-virus program. Keep it
updated through the maker's Web site.

By the way, if you need a free antivirus software
program, you can download one here:

I suggest you can the IE noise and try the Opera 7
browser.
http://www.opera.com , I use it with Win XP home ed. and it
runs perfectly, crashed maybe 2 times since install, and
has none of the strange issues you are having with IE6.
Opera is a better browser....well, compared to IE, anything
is a better browser. (for certain reasons I do not advise
an uninstall of IE, some say "it can't be done"..it can,
but I wouldn't if I were you.)
You may wany to check for a stuck key failure on your
board, maybe the Ctrl key is sticking as you hit certain
buttons, if you have a notebook PC, the smallest crap under
the keys can cause stuck key failures(I get them all the
time with my spacebar on my Vaio notebook)if that is the
case, the overly priced air in a can works well to clean
it.
I think for a billion dollar corpration, Microsoft has
relaxed Q.A. standards. If our company let products out of
our facility, with the same quality of Internet Explorer,
I'd bet we would be unemployed faster than you can say IE.

hope ya find my ranting helpful, if not, buy a Mac :-)
