A user here received an e-mail here yesterday in spanish
and even though they cannot read spanish felt it was
necessary to open. It had a few attachments which she
avoided, they looked like pictures and the body of the e-
mail was blank except for at the top of the message a few
phrases in spanish were flashing. What is the likely hood
that it is some sort of virus that executed a script on
her system? How common are e-mails that execute these
scripts and how dangersous can they be. Also most
importantly how can we stop these scripts from executing
when an e-mail is opened?

Thanks

Outlook does not execute script in HTML messages unless you have a really
old version of Outlook 98. Most viruses spread by tricking the user into
opening an attached file. There are, however, some email virus exploits that
involve vulnerabilities in Internet Explorer. If your copy of IE is
up-to-date with all security patches, everything should be fine. If,
however, it's not, I'd scan that system for viruses ASAP.

Sounds like your user needs a seminar in safe computing, though.
