virus scan I am using and how would I run it?

Windows XP does not have a built in Virus Scanner. It is
possible that you do not have one if you did not install
one unless it came with your computer pre-installed.

Look though your Start menu and try to find some of the
leading virus software like:
Norton Antivirus
AVG
Mcafee Antivirus

If you don't know the answer, you probably have none. Neither
Windows XP, nor any other version of Windows, comes with a virus
scanner. You need to buy one (or choose a free one) and install
it yourself.
