Virus scan at start up

Hi,
Every time I run my Excel 2002 program it automatically
runs a virus scan. This causes the start up to last a good
30 seconds or so. Why does this happen? Is there any way
to disable these scans? I have Norton Antivirus 2004
running on my machine.

Norton had some troubles with a site security certificate, but I think that
was resolved. Just to be sure ensure you have the most up to date
definitions.

If this is not the case I suspect the file you are opening has some code in
it or your personal xls has a lot and Norton is checking it each time

Hi,
Thanks for answering.
The problem happens when I try to start the program - with
out opening any file. Just running the program takes a
long time. Plus, when I use the program, every calculation
(I'm not even talking about macros, or complicated
functions) takes forever.
Can you tell me how to check my personal xls?
Thanks!

Hi :
I have the same problem when running excel 2000 and norton
2002.
When I open excel,it hangs, and the status bar reads "
requesting virus scan". It's almost as if excel has been
inadvertantly tweaked(by me)by one of my helper
applications such as "X-teq systems/X-setup". I've
checked,without success, butI'll try again.

I can stop the scan, and open excel immediately by opening
task manager. But that's no long term answer. Does anyone
have any ideas?
