virus problem

i have a virus on my computer. whenver i log into
windows an error message pops up. when i get into
windows, i see none of my shortcuts or the task bar. i
can only run a progam by hitting ctrl-alt-delete and then
selecting 'run'. a lot of my programs will not run. i
have windows xp. however, i cannot find the boot disk.
i do have a windows me boot disk, but if i re-install ME
i will loose everyting on my entire hard drive...i
think. please help!!!

Try to get internet explorer up and running and go to
www.mcafee.com and attempt to run an online virus scan.
good luck, and email me to let me know if it worked
