Virus Problem

Alex

We have had a recent "IM virus" that popped up as hyperlinks to a jpeg file
to all recipients in people's contact list. This is Windows messenger for
Exchange, v. 4.8.

Wondering if there is a way to make all hyperlinks sent via IM *not* invoke
Internet Explorer? If there is an exchange server setting for this that
would be the most elegant approach, although if there were a registry change
to do this that would be ok also.

I had seen some posts about how to have Mozilla/Firefox handle URLs in
Messenger; this seems like a similar ask.

TIA,
AlMo

Greetings Alex,

I'm not sure which version of Windows Messenger you're using as there has never been a 4.8.

However, Windows Messenger 5.1 (which has Exchange IM support) should invoke the default
browser for links:

It doesn't. It always invokes Microsoft Internet Explorer for ALL of its links.
Is there any way to change this?
One of my friends has an issue with IE on her pc in that when it opens, her
computer dies for a while (she's too stubborn/lazy to re-install). So she'd
like it to open with another browser.
Is it possible?
