Scott

I got some virus a couple days ago. I couldn't delete it
using Norton, but they said I should start up in Safe
mode. I did that and still couldn't delete the 4500
infected files. So I manually deleted the folders they
were in (Mostly Norton) but also a dllhost. Then when I
tried to restart I could not get it to go out of "Safe
Mode." I tried and tried but to no avail. So I went to
reinstall windows XP and fix the current install. It
gets stuck in a loop that says "Can not install in safe
mode, restarting now" but then it starts up in safe
mode. I have tried everything.

Eventually I just did a completely new install of
windows, w/o deleting the old one. That installed
windows fine, but now I don't have access to all my files
and programs and settings from my old windows install.
Is there a way I can salvage the old install? Or is
there a way I can use "file and setting transfer wizard"
to transfer my files, programs, and settings to my new
windows install (Same C drive)??

Thanks for you help!!

Scott, did you actually do a new install, or did you do an upgrade?
If you did a new install, your programs are gone forever unless you made
backups.

The parallel install should have given you access to your
old files. The only way I could see a problem would have
been if your old installation was on a seperate partition
using NTFS. Try booting to a command prompt and moving
your files in DOS mode.
