I brought up a taiwanese machine called Magic-Pro this morning. And I
plugged one of the memory modules front-to-back. And a sudden of brownish
blaze and smell like metalish came up through one of the chips And although
the machine can still run ok , every now and again the machine reboots
itself. I checked it for virus and yes the machine got a virus called
downloader.... or something, it continued till now on for about half a
day...so annoying... so the automatic reboot is due to virus or hardware
damage?Thanks

Okay - let me put it the way I bet many people want to:

"Dude! You saw a BLAZE and SMELLED BURNING! Come on!"

I think this one is from another troll. It can't be real.

I used to try and avoid a call like that (deciding if someone was a troll or
not) - but I am getting bad about avoiding giving the obvious answers to
questions like this because you can never tell.

This was my "I hope this is not a troll" attempt. ;-)

The machine works in a *NORMAL* manner after the crash I must stress. The
machine boots into XP and POST was successful. Why me a troll or you just
want to pick on somebody...

There was a "blaze" and "smoke"?? You may have two problems!! First, any
"fire" or smaoke coming from the hardware is not a good sign. This is a
sign of a hardware problem (major if a "blaze" occured!!!) You may have a
virus problem but first correct the hardware!!

Thanks for the info., The IC caught fire and I was not sure if the IC has
been burned out. But trial and trial to reinstall windows xp, it finally
came to a success...
it probably a memory controller or even as minor as a logic gates chip. I
will try to post the layout of the motherboard when I go home and scan the
picture... thanks everyone

BTW, can you get a replacement of that tiny chip instead of investing in
another motherboard? or it is cheaper to just replace the motherboard?
Thanks
Jack
