It could be a browser hijacker......and follow these instructions in
order to see if it is........

Download the program Hijack This from

http://tomcoyote.org/forums/ipdl.php or

http://mjc1.com/mirror/hjt/

Unzip, double-click "HijackThis.exe" and Press "Scan".

When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save
Log" button.
Click: "Save Log" (generates "hijackthis.log")

Next, HijackThis | Config [button] | Misc Tools [button]
Click: Generate StartupList log [button] (generates "startuplist.txt")

and copy and paste the results into a new message on the following
spyware forum......

http://forums.spywareinfo.com/index.php?s=&act=Post&CODE=00&f=11

This should sort out your problem......if it is a Browser Hijacker.

Cheers......Heather

Been having huge problems getting on the internet all day. My email works
but when I try to browse the internet all I get is "Page cannot be
displayed"

I am running WINXP and using Bell Sympatico High Speed.
I ran Adaware, Spybot and did a virus scan (McAfee), each program detected
some exe and dll files and deleted them.

When I try to browse I also get the following at the bottom:

Downloading from site: res://c:\windows\system32\shdoclc.dll/dnserror.htm

anyone have any ideas? This is really frustrating.

Thanks

Try turning off your firewall and see if you have the same problem.
I had DSL once, and thats what the problems was for me. You might have a
conflict.
Just an idea.

Back in 2000, this same problem was caused by a bad .dll
in an update.

Try the microsoft.public.win98.gen_discussion NG. The MVPs
there should have a solution.

I cant even connect to the internet at all!!
My wife is screaming because she needs to do some online banking.
I cant check the hockey scores.......this is really maddening!!!

I just bought some new antivirus software, hopefully it will find something
that my old software didnt.

Check that the Home Page setting under Tools\Options has not been set
to res://c:\windows\system32\shdoclc.dll/dnserror.htm. I've seen it
happen.

Might sound daft, but have you set any up rules and inadvertently blocked
yourself? I had the same trouble with NIS 2004 until I checked the logs and
realised I had included myself in a blocked address range!

nope, its still set to yahoo.com

Nope, didnt do that either.

I noticed that I was getting pop ups as soon as I would log onto yahoo. I am
thinking that its a adware issue but I am not 100% certain.

Ive made a few alterations in internet options uunder connections tab.So far
ive had no trouble at all.

Are you able to ping your ISP's DNS server?
Have you a modem? If so have you tried via a dial-up account?

Steve.
