Hi There
The case : If you browes the internet, you can open the main page of any web site, but all the links are dead, you can not open any window
If you go to "About Internet Explorer", you see the version and Cipher Streength as empty brackets, means there are no information about them
Other symtom : if you go to Add/remove programs from control panel, you will not see the softtware list installed on your machine, in addetion, the caption of the close botton in that window will show a hot ket as "C&lose"
This happing on several W2k machines. I've done the common sense procedures of troublshooting the systems such as scanning and updating the lates from MS
I am getting slowness in the netword as a reaction for that bahavior, it seemed a virus, but not sure of it

Any comment in regard. Any advice will be appreciated.

I have seen this before... The one thing I am certain of is it is *not*
virus activity but rather corruption of disk files.

If I remember correctly, the "button display" problem turned out to be a
COM/DCOM issue with a DLL, OCX, or with a registry entry.

The issue with your "software list" is definitely a registry corruption
problem.

I suspect the "can't click links" problem is related to the COM/DCOM issue
or with the corrupted registry issue.

Also, if I remember correctly, we ended up formatting that machine and
starting over. I don't think we ever found another solution.
