The last couple of days my netgear rp614 router has needed to be powered
down for me to get back on the cable network. I have since updated to the
latest firmware and it seems to help...Question...is there a virus that can
cause my router settings to drop?
OP: WinXP Pro
Cable
thanks

No. Your router has a 10/100 switch that is supposed to auto synchronize. The
problem is most likely caused by your cable modem, which usually has a 10/BaseT
ethernet port. Due to problems that occur on the cable network, your modem may
occasionally fail to synchonize properly with the 10/100 WAN port. Resetting
either the modem or the router, or simply unplugging the ethernet cable and
plugging it back in, will force a resync.
