Hi, A friend got infected by four viruses, she used Stinger to remove
them, but didn't note what they were called. The problem caused by the
viruses is still there, her dial up connection disconnects after approx
three minutes.
Does anyone know what they were likely to be, and what can she do to fix the
problem.

Thanks, Ant

It sounds a bit like the Blaster virus. What version of Windows is she
using? If later than Windows ME has she got the RPC Exploit patch
installed from Microsoft? I don't care what Anti-virus you use, if you
haven't got that exploit patched the Blaster virus will simply re-infect
you within minutes.

Do you get any error messages before the system disconnects?

Give us more details.

Hi, She is running XP Home, and no virus protection, well she didn't have,
but has now. Her ISP is BT/Yahoo, a box comes up saying there is an error on
the line, and to contact BT for a diagnosis, just enter you email addy, and
send. Problem, she doesn't know her BT addy, as she uses Hotmail. I despair
sometimes.

Ant.
