I am still getting bombarded by e-mails with attachments from Microsoft with
the subject "Latest Patch, Current Microsoft Update, Newest Upgrade, etc"
These e-mails contain a virus attachment. Norton warns me everytime one
comes to my e-mail address. I am getting about 30 of these a day. How
can I get rid of these e-mails. I don't open them. I simply delete
them and I know my computer is virus free.
Can anyone help me to somehow stop these e-mails. Thanks. Oh, I also
get them with a subject of "abort advice, abort letter."

Hi Karen,

You can't stop them, but you can filter them out.

Click tools/message rules/mail and create a new rule that has these
parameters:

- when the message body contains 'latest vesion of security update'
- delete it
- mark it as read
- stop processing more rules

They're going to keep coming as long as there are systems out there
infected with the worm that is sending them. Delete them. Use message rules
or delete them manually.

Since this is a basics group, I guess I should mention how to do a "group
delete."

Method 1: Press CTRL and hold it down. Click on each message that you want
to get rid of. Click once = select. Click again to de-select. When done,
release CTRL and press Delete on the keyboard.

Method 2: If you see a block of messages in the inbox that are one right
after the other, click the first one. Press shift and holding that key
down, click the last message in the group.

TIP: You can use method 1 and method 2 in conjunction with each other.
Example, select a long list with method 2. Then press CTRL and click on
messages you want to keep to remove their selection highlight. Press Delete
to remove messages.

"Take out the trash": If your mail program maintains a "Trash" folder or
sends deleted mail to the Recycle Bin, don't forget to empty it too.

Karen,
There are two things you can do to prevent these messages reaching your
computer:
1. Download and install Mailwasher. It can delete messages with virusses
from the server;
2. Don´t send your real emailadress with your NG posting, like you are doing
now. Spammers get the adresses they are sending virusses to from newsgroups.
Change your adress in a fake one.

Ben

If you use Outlook express- add a mail rule. select some unique text in
the email, and use it as a rule for "message contains"
and then for actions- delete the email. This will clean out your inbound
mailbox from this spam.
