Is it possible to remove a virus from a computer that doesn't have Norton AV
software on it?

I have Norton AV 2004 and I want to remove or check for a virus on a PC that
doesn't have Norton on it. Please can someone explain how to do this with
the lates virus definitions. TIA

Can you remove the drive in Q and hook it up as a slave in your box,
then scan it?

Does the PC have an internet connection? Free virus removal stuff out
there in the vast WWW land.

Follows David Lipman's instructions for MULTI_AV, like in eg
<WgiXf.60$e11.56@trnddc02>

Create a boot floppy or CD, copy the MULTI_AV folder there. Start the
infected machine from *this* device, connect it to the internet for
updates, and run the virus scanners.

If the MULTI_AV is too large for diskette, copy it onto the hard disk
of the infected computer, start it from floppy, then run the program.

BTW: David, the ik-cs.com seems to be gone; or does it not like my
Opera browser?

Download MULTI_AV.EXE from the URL --
http://www.ik-cs.com/programs/virtools/Multi_AV.exe

To use this utility, perform the following...
Execute; Multi_AV.exe { Note: You must use the default folder C:\AV-CLS }
Choose; Unzip
Choose; Close

Execute; C:\AV-CLS\StartMenu.BAT
{ or Double-click on 'Start Menu' in C:\AV-CLS }

NOTE: You may have to disable your software FireWall or allow WGET.EXE to go through your
FireWall to allow it to download the needed AV vendor related files.

C:\AV-CLS\StartMenu.BAT -- { or Double-click on 'Start Menu' in C:\AV-CLS}
This will bring up the initial menu of choices and should be executed in Normal Mode.
This way all the components can be downloaded from each AV vendor's web site.
The choices are; Sophos, Trend, McAfee, Kaspersky, Exit this menu and Reboot the PC.

You can choose to go to each menu item and just download the needed files or you can
download the files and perform a scan in Normal Mode. Once you have downloaded the files
needed for each scanner you want to use, you should reboot the PC into Safe Mode [F8 key
during boot] and re-run the menu again and choose which scanner you want to run in Safe
Mode. It is suggested to run the scanners in both Safe Mode and Normal Mode.

When the menu is displayed hitting 'H' or 'h' will bring up a more comprehensive PDF help
file. http://www.ik-cs.com/multi-av.htm

Hindsight is 20-20. When I first read Gabe's post I didn't understand what he meant.

Now that I re-read it I do.

Thank you Gabriele !

Erm, I am fully aware, that "Gabriele" is a name for male people in
Italy, yet I'm living in Germany, where it is only applied to
females...

It is a Full Moon ? :-)

Male or Femler -- your data is just as valuable. Names don't always indicate sex. I am
only interested in the content of the post.

Sorry for the name mis-interpretation, really.

Ah... I have a subscription to a magazine produced in Germany.
One of the editors is Gabi Keast. Would that be short for
Gabriele, or could it be a male name?

(And for completeness, in England we generally have Gabriel for
males and Gabrielle or Gabriella for females)

The former, this is obviously a woman. The short version of "Gabriele"
is most often "Gabi", sometimes "Gaby" (which I used myself in school)
