has anyone heard if there is a virus that stops appns working on desktop
and the task bar goes missing??? my virus software did not pick it up, I
had to format harddrive

I'm sure there are several. It can also come from incompletely
removed trojans or spyware, or from running more than one resident
antivirus program.
