virus help please

Please please can some one help me?
I have been infected with the virus w32/gaobot.gen worm. Mcafee detected it
but wont clean it. I cant delete it as access is denied, although I have not
found a way to close the exe to make them accessable.
All the online virus scans didnt help me at all.
I have not been able to find a way to remove the virus, as all the online
virus removal tips dont seem to apply to my situation.
I have shut down the system restore to remove the virus from there. But it
still wont go from my windows folder.
I have used the recovery cd to reset my laptop to factory settings 8 times
now, but each time after i do this the virus is still there. Can I reformat
the c drive and then use the cd to reset it to factory settings after that?
Or will the c drive be needed to do the restore?
Also I have tried to edit the registry but, the online mcafee instrustions I
was given didnt apply to the entries in there.
Please can any one tell me in simple terms how to get shot of this nasty
worm?
PS if I need to do something in safe mode, then I really will need
instructions in easy terms as possible as I have never used it before.
