Hi,

Background:
-----------
I was running my McCaffee virus(with latest patches) scan
on my hard disk and found a virus. The affected file was:
C:/WINNT/System32/fixieupdate.exe.

The file was removed/deleted subsequently.

Problem
-------
Since then, my browser often hangs (I've noticed it
repeatedly when I try to open more than one instance of
the browser). I haven't faced this problem if I am
operating in a single browser window.

Information:
-----------
Following are my System & Browser specs:
System: Windows 2000 Professional, Service Pack - 4
(Latest patches & updates provided are applied)

Office: Microsoft Office XP - SP2

IE: Ver 6.0.2800.1106, 128 Bit cipher
Updates: SP1, Q330994, Q818529, Q822925

Can somebody help?

Hi Raghu,

'fixieupdate.exe' is not a system file and it's a trojan/spyware.

Check here:
http://www.doxdesk.com/parasite/IEMonit.html

It is recommended to run a full system scan using Ad-Aware
[www.lavasoftusa.com] to eliminate any other spyware from the system.
*Update the pattern file before scanning*
