How does it come that Norton AntiVirus makes much more frequently virus
updates (mostly one every two days, sometimes more) than AVG (each 4 or 5
days)?

You can configure the frequency with which it updates.

<sarcasm>

Maybe because they believe that Norton users are 4 to 1 or
5 to 2 times as likely to do something stupid during the interim
between the unleashing of malware and the availability of a
supporting definition to detect that malware.

What really matters is that new definitions are available
(and implemented) for new malware before said malware
is subjected to a scan. The user should control the time
lapse between the reciept of the file and the use of the
scanner to be sure it is greater than the acceptable "day
zero" risk factor.
