Win2K system. Started with CD-RW's created suddenly
become unreadable or wiped clean. On restarts, taking 45
min-60 min to reboot. Then, no programs would run
correctly. Clicking Excel or Word docs on desktop,
wouldnt open. Everything clicked on would point to
Windows Installer looking for a program disk of something
different (ie: Front Page, Money) etc. Even installing
Office 200 Pro CD wouldnt let me run Setup. No longer
have a dialup connection to the internet and wouldnt let
me create a new one with known settings.
Installer even tries to run when you try to enter control
panel. I can pull files off the drive onto floppy and run
in another machine.
Other than removing all programs and files and
reilstalling windows, WHAT CAN I DO?
Please email any help response to (e-mail address removed)

A superlong shot would be to try the system file checker...
sfc.exe /scannow
Good luck...

If it's just windows 2000 professional, no matter how important you think it
is, Windows isn't :)
Run the a Windows installation in repair mode - It'll reinstall all of it's
operating system files, but most of your software will still work, and even
be in the same start menu.
You won't lose any documents or programs, either.
If you have any files utilizing NTFS encryption, decrypt them before you run
the repair install.
