virtual private network connection is not available

Hi,
I have been trying to solve this for some time now with no
success:
I have windows xp pro installed on my LT.
When I try ro configure a new internet connection using
the "new connection wizard" most of the options are not
available. if I choose "connect to the internet" and
then "setup my connection manualy" the only radio button
available after that is "set up an advanced connection".
If I choose "connect to the network at my work place" none
of the radio buttons are available after that...
This means I can't configure my laptop to connect directly
to the internet and only thru the network setup wizard.
Please help, how can I make those radio buttons work?
