Keep getting a msg telling me my virtual memory is low.
What the heck is it? And how do I fix it?

Thanking You in Advance

Are you out of disk space ? Check ! Or try the IBM
Universal Fix All - re-boot. That re-initializes virtual
memory .. . Good Luck !

Hello
It means you have a software problem and not a hardware problem.

Maybe a page file in use by some other program. Or even a virus. Might want
to check out your task manager and see what task is hogging resources.

You can also run adaware to check for spyware that might be using page file
resources.

Download, Update and Run

Instead of retyping all the info already provided by Windows built-in help,
it would be faster to just tell you where to find the answers. The answers
are in Windows built-in Help.

Click Start. Click Help and Support. In the Search box, type virtual
memory.

Not only will explain it all, answer your questions, and tell you what to
do, it will also teach you a valuable lesson. Why wait one hour for
somebody to give you all the answers, when you can find the answer for
yourself in under one minute, using Windows built-in Help.

Already tried that before I posted, did you before you game me the advice?.
Gave me little info on virtual memory.

just trying to help. yes, I did try it, before giving you the advice.
thats' how I found out, in order to tell you.

if you read the help file, you would not be asking "What is virtual memory?"
and "How do I fix it?"

Sorry, just discovered my help file is messed up. Not giving me info on
anything I search for. Did a repair install about a month ago, do you know
if that would have anything to do with it?

Haus has given you a pretty good start.

Virtual memory is pagefile on your hard drive. When hardware memory becomes
full, Windows swaps data out of your installed memory to what once was
called the swapfile in Windows 9x and called the pagefile in NT, 2000 and
XP. This area on your hard drive is called virtual memory.

As Haus has suggested, first make sure your antivirus software is up to date
and run a scan of your system. Also make sure your system is clear of any
malware; download, install and run Ad Aware:
www.lavasoftusa.com.

If clear, go to Control Panel, open System, go to the Advanced tab, under
Performance, click "Settings," go to the Advanced tab, click Change under
Virtual Memory, select the option to let the "System Manage the size or
Virtual Memory, click the "Set" button, click apply and ok, reboot and see
if the problem goes away.
