What is a virtual memory.

Hard disk space that acts like extra memory. Windows Nt series
(including XP) has a file called pagefile.sys for this purpose. 9x has
a different file, with a .swp extention. Other OSes, mac and linux
have a similar feature.
Is it a part of RAM?

Kinda. But not really.

Uh, that's kinda wrong. A page of virtual memory may be mapped to a
page of RAM, or to a page on HD, or to a page of IOspace, or to nothing.

To the OP: stick with the URL that Gordon gave you earlier. That page
has a clear and correct explaination of virtual memory
