virtual memory

I keep getting a sign that says virtual memory is getting
low, windows is up dating it. what does this mean?? how
do i stop this from happening??

There will be some duplication here but there should be
something that helps. Probably the easiest thing to do is
add RAM - XP will run on 265 but prefers 512 or more.

That means, that the program you're using needs a lot of
memory and windows is increasing the page file on the
harddrive. You can install more Memory or set the virtual
memory higher.

right click my computer, go to properties/advanced/system
settings/advanced/virtual memory/change.
Usually you should set the minimum amount to 1.5 times the
amount of installed Memory. If you have 256MB, you would
set it to 384. Set the maximum to 3 times the amount of
installed Memory.
