Normally Windows will adjust the page file/virtual memory
immediately after you press OK on the virtual memory
warning box. So really you don't need to do anything.
However, to prevent further occurances of the virtual
memory low message you might consider changing your
virtual memory details yourself. This is a simple enough
job. But before i tell you how to change it, you will
need to know how much physical memory you have. The
reason for this is because we are going to use a formula
for calculating your virtual memory. So here is an
example: Say you have 256MB of RAM. The fromula we need
to use is 1.5 times the RAM equivalent equals the minimum
and maximum virtual memory figure. This equates as
follows:
256MB + 128MB (128 is half of 256) = 384MB
Now use the same formula on your memory. After you arrive
at the figure, write it down and then proceed as follows:
1/ Go to Control Panel
2/ Click on System Icon
3/ In system window click on Advanced Tab
4/ In Advanced window click on Settings button in the
Performance section
5/ In the poerformance options window click the Advanced
tab
6/ in the advanced tab window right at the bottom you
will see a section marked Virtual Memory. Click the
Change button
7/ in the virtual memory window highlight your hard
drive/partition
8/ Next click the Custom Size radio button in the Paging
file for selected drive section.
9/ When you clcik on the custom radio button you will
enable this section and two boxes will become available.
These are Initial size and Maximum size.
10/ In the Minimum size box type the figure you wrote
down, i.e. 384
11/ in the Maximum size box type the same figure, i.e.,
384
12/ Next click the Set button followed by OK. you need to
click OK twice more to exit system properties.
That's it you are finished.
By the way it might be worth you printing these
instruction out and keeping them safe just in case you
need to refer to them at anytime.
Hope this helps
