virtual memory too large?

I have some enhanced cd's that were created with
Macromedia's Director version 6. These cd's include
audio,video,pictures,web links etc.
They have always played fine until a couple of weeks ago
when I reinstalled Windows XP.
Now,when I put the cd in an error message pops up that
says "this program needs at least 3 MB's of free virtual
memory to run". I did some checking on Google and found
this to be a common problem with Director and there was a
link to Macromedia's site that specifies to decrease the
maximum ammount of virtual memory to under 200 MB,s.
This seems like an unacceptable solution as when I tried
it Windows informed me that with such a low number it
would not be able to create certain bugcheck files.
I have 1 gig. of ram and let Windows manage the page file
size. I have tried the 1.5 to 3 times the amount of ram
setting for the page file but still get the same results
with these enhanced cd's.
My question is Why did these cd's work before I
reinstalled the operating system and is there a work
around to get them to play now?
Thank you in advance for your responses.
