Can someone please explain the pros and cons of adjusting
the virtual memory page file size. I have read many
articles that have suggested using multiples of the RAM
for min and max. What possible advantages are there to
doing this as opposed to letting the system manage the
size?

If there are advantages what settings should I use?

I have been led to believe that there must be some
advantages as PCs come (in my experience) with them set
to a custom level.

Thanks in advance

Hi Henry,

The paging file and physical memory comprise virtual memory. For detailed
information about the virtual memory paging file access the KB article
given below:

#appliesto

You can modify the virtual memory to improve the performance of Windows XP.
This you can do by following the steps in the article given below:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;308417&Product=winxp

Note: In the above article, look for the heading "To Change the Size of the
Virtual Memory Paging File" and follow the instructions under it for
changing the size of the virtual memory paging file.

I hope the above information is what you are looking for.
