Virtual memory settings question

I am educating my techs on virtual memory settings. I have always been told
to set them
up as 2x the memory for the minimum and 4x the memory for the maximum. For
example,
if I have 512MB of memory, then my minimum would be 1024MB and my maximum
would
be 2048MB.

I am trying to find out the reason behind this so I have some information to
give my technicians.
Rather than just saying "do it", I always like to say "do it because.....".

Any comments?

Thanks!

Depending on the use, setting the pagefile to 1.5XRAM is usually sufficient.
Always best to set the initial and maximum to the same value to minimize
pagefile fragmentation.

Do you have any web links that explains "why"? I would appreciate it.

Michaaal (is that really your name??), check this NG for a post from me
today re: pagefile settings. There is a thorough thread there
discussing the ins and outs of pagefile settings and how we've arrived
at this "CW".
