My virtual memory setting is normally set at 1535.
I installed a program that won't run unless I change the setting to 200.
If I leave the setting at 200, will this lower setting effect the
performance of anything?
I use XP Pro. with 1 gig. of ram.
I appreciate your help.

Thanks,
Dennis

No matter how much ram you have,even 1 or 11 GB,xp still
uses a page file,200 is v.low,but i'm sure that 175 was the nos
you had to have for xp to write the error/dump in case it had to.

Hi;

ABSOLUTELY request/require that you report back if following cure is a "fix"
with the NAME of the program that was involved.

This happens quite often and you won't find the explanation easily.

Quite/Most often it's faulty/badly written >hard-coding<
somewhere in the Application (the executable itself, its related *.DLL(s). a
*.DAT or an *.INI installed by it that is responsible.

EXPLANATION
============
The programmer did not foresee anyone going over 1000 magabytes for the
swapfile (or the paging file(s)) and coded for ONLY 3 digits. The app.
disregards the 4th digit.

Note that there's even a couple of apps written for XP that suffer from this
bug!!!

"1535 is read thus as:"153".

Soluce >IF< this is the ONLY reason
======**========*****=====
Increase and try "2048" (Read as "204").
Decrease to "999".

Remember to let us know asap!!!

The name of the program is" The Joy of Cooking " 2.0.
When trying to install I got an error message saying the program requires at
least 3 megabytes of virtual memory to run. I called their support center
and they told me to change the setting from 1536 to 200. After doing this
the program worked fine. They didn't say anything about a patch being
available. If I leave the setting at 200 will this hurt anything?
Thanks

Hi;
If they told you to set the "MINIMUM" usage at 200 versus a value that was
any lower and your "MAXimum" was left (untouched) at 1536 then there's
NOTHING in there "annoying" XP.
Won't hurt anything, will just keep the "cook" happy!
