I keep getting a "Virtual Memory too Low" message from Windows. I thought
this happened in the background w/o notice. This message comes up after the
PC is on for several hours. It seems to also lock up the system too,
sometimes. Any ideas? Thanks;
JOHN

A memory leak is caused when an application (or service) does not release
previously used memory. As it continues to run it consumes all available
memory till lockup usually occurs.

I have 260K-ish available, with a few apps opened (which is usual), I
have a
consistent 86K-ish available. CPU is at 0 - 1%. What is Memory leak and
how do I make it go away? Is replacing the memory the response? The
memory
I have is questionable.
Dave answered the "WHAT is" part.

To answer the how do i fix it issue: there aren't real good answers, but:
once identified, are there updates to the program available, can an
alternitive be found? If NO, there are also "garbage collector" programs
that will free up memory once it becomes unused. This is a last resort and
not without it's potential problems.

Replacing memory will not help with this issue. Installing MORE memory
will help... it will delay the symptoms of amemory leak. But more memory
boosts performance anyway.

Thanks Dave and Paul!!

I found it! The task mgr idea helped me find the culprit. Turns out HP
printer software and network, (G85 and DirectJet) likes to pole even when I
close the LAN port. You can watch the one .exe slowly suck up memory in
task mgr. Slow I close the HP printer too. Someone suggested ZoneAlarm's
stop button will stop port traffic and maybe not cause the HP printer
leak??? Will try soon.

THANKS!!!
