Virtual device driverError. I tried to install a program in my C drive but it
displays a message: “… virtual device drive format in the registry is
invalidâ€. I tried to fix it with a Microsoft support article (254914). I
followed all the steps:
a) Open Registry Editor
b) Find VDD value: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\
\VirtualDeviceDrivers|VDD
c) When I opened the VDD key there was no value in it, so I didn’t need
to delete anything
d) So, the next step was to edit it, adding the following values:
Value Name box = VDD
Data Type box = REG_MULTI_SZ

I received the following message: “the value already existsâ€â€¦ so I
couldn’t fix the problem.

A last point: My hard drive have 3 partitions: two (2) with windows 2000
(C:\ and F:\ ) and one (1) XP (G:\). I checked on my other Windows 2000
operat. system partition and its Registry Editor did show a value:
VDD: REG_MULTI_SZ: F \ PROGRAM ~1\Sysmantec\S 3ZEVNT1.DLL…
This partition was my former default startup operating system

The article is pretty straight-forward. You'll need to use regedt32.exe.
regedit.exe cannot create Reg_Multi_Sz strings. If you need to recreate the
VirtualDeviceDrivers key; highlight the key (in the left-hand pane), then
Edit|Delete Then (in the left-hand pane) position the cursor on the
"Control" key, (so you'll be creating directly under "Control") then
Edit|Add Key, then for the "Key Name:"
VirtualDeviceDrivers
You can leave the "Class:" blank Then proceed with steps four through seven.

Make sure your doing this logged on as local administrator.
